Every year, during the first weekend of December, the longest race in the United States takes place at the Thunderhill Raceway Park, in California, under the sanction of NASA (no, not the space agency but the National Auto Sport Association).
This year, the guys from Bay Bridge Bimmers and Minis of Oakland will be entering the contest with a twin-engined MINI Cooper, aka 'TWINI'. How does that work? Well, instead of using just one 1.6-liter engine that was already installed under the bonnet, they added another one that will be powering the rear wheels.
This way, the car will have around 400 HP at its disposal (both engines came with the JCW tune) and all-wheel-drive to throw at the 3 mile, 15 turn course. The initial tests exceeded expectations in both handling and performance, but the guys will continue to work on the car until the race will take place, in December.
