A 70s Triumph Bonneville and automotive turbochargers together doesn't sound like everyday motorcycling, does it? Well, it's true that such a bike would only have a few days of open throttle, and salt is all it would see, as we're talking about Raquel, Trillion Industries' amazing salt flat-racing beast.
The brainchild of Derek Pauletto, Raquel has departed from the realm of earthly bikes some time ago, now racing in the M/PFB (Modified/Pushrod Blown Fuel) class at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Derek outdid himself creating such a machinery which reached 172.28 km/h (107.049 mph) and he's definitely not stopping here. His efforts hampered by some electrical problems, Derek is aiming higher with upgraded systems in late August.

The old Triumph provided the engine, front frame and the forks, with the rest of the bike being crafted entirely by Derek.

Since the bore and stroke of the engine remained the same, power had to come from somewhere else. Derek installed a turbo charger from an 1.8l Audi, replacing the intake with the throttle bodies of a 2003 CBR machine.

Fuel management is now done via a modified Toyota Supra HKS F-Con V Pro unit which makes sure the engine's thirst is quenched. The hardtail read, fuel and oil tanks are Derek's custom fabrications, just like the machined billet aluminium wheels.

The early September speed trials will see Derek and Raquel back in Utah, this time with an USD CBR fork, hydraulic clutch and a new ECU. Story via BikeEXIF, photos by Kurtis Kristianson of Spindrift.
