Turbo Headlights Make This C4 Corvette Drag Racer Faster. No, Really, They Do

Over the years, many C4 Corvette driver replaced their pop-up headlights with conventional units, with some of them even considering this made the sportscar look more velocity-savvy.

Well, the driver of the Chevy in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page shares those C4 owners' desire to get rid of the mechanically-actuated lights, but that's because the man came up with headlights make his car go faster, not "look" faster.

This senior 'Vette had had its headlights replaced with... a pair of turbochargers, as we're dealing with a heavily gifted drag strip machine here. Removing the front section of the car (the "hood" no longer exists), reveals a setup involving a 540ci Chevy V8 and twin 88mm turbos. Oh, and let's not forget that happy fascia of the thing, one of the very few smiling faces shown by such machines.

Given the extremely extroverted nature of the forced induction setup being used here, the first questions that arise upon noticing this Chevrolet obviously have to do with parameters such as boost level and horsepower.

However, the car has just had its shakedown, hence the clip below, which means the engine is far from having been pushed to its full potential. For now, the turbos are delivering around 35 lbs of boost, but, according to the owner of the machine, that number should jump to 55 lbs once the testing is completed. And that's when the drag strip times will start being included in the videos.

Upon coming across this remarkable speeding contraption, we can't help but remember the Chevrolet Corvette's last-bastion-of-pop-up-headlights status - production cars ceased being gifted with such a feature back in 2005, when the Chevrolet ended production of the C5-generation Corvette.

P.S.: As mighty as this build feels, the driver doesn't waste the occasion to belittle his new 88mm turbos.
