Despite going about things quite differently, both the older McLaren 720S and the new Porsche 911 Turbo S enjoy a ton of respect whenever they line up for a drag race.
The British super sports car has been around for what feels like ages. Despite that, it continues to be one of the best choices for anyone looking for an out-of-the-box drag racing monster. With good tires, a good driver, and a good surface, it'll do very low tens all day long. Make any of those three "goods" a "great", and it'll even dip into the nines.

There are better options, one of them being the McLaren 765LT. That's a car Brooks Weisblat, the owner of the 720S in this clip, has already taken delivery of, which means we'll soon start to see it featured in videos just like this. That beast is essentially a track-focused version of the 720S with more power, lower weight, and even quicker acceleration.

The not-so-secret ingredient behind the 720S' success is its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine developing 720 PS (710 hp) in this application, though independent dyno tests have shown that output to be greater than the official number. It also has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear wheels as well as a natural ability to make the most of the available grip.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S, in Cabriolet form here, couldn't be more different. One thing it does have in common with the McLaren 720S, though, is the manufacturer's tendency to hide its true potential behind slightly understated specs. That makes reading its technical sheet almost irrelevant beyond the realization it's a very serious piece of machinery.

This particular 992 Cabriolet has also had a bit of work done in the form of a tune and downpipes, which makes its output even more of a mystery. If we were to speculate, we'd go for anything between 50 and a maximum of 100 hp over the stock 650 hp, though its performance on the track might suggest that's a bit optimistic.

The clip below contains three races between the 720S and the Turbo S and, even though they are each very different, they all end with the same victor. Check them out and, just as a fun fact/sidenote, keep an eye out for the pair's 1/8-mile time in the second race: yup, it's identical.
