Just when we thought people got tired of pitting supercars and other go-fast machines against the 691 HP Tesla Model S P85D, a new street race of this kind comes along and proves us wrong. However, things went downhill on this occasion and, fortunately, we’re not referring to a crash.
The Tesla was ready to battle it out with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. These JDM machines are well known for the tuning potential, and the owner of this particular one hadn’t been afraid of tapping into the car’s resources.
Thus, the 2-liter engine had been massaged to 500 HP. We all know how Insane the Tesla Model S P85D launches can be and yet Evos are also known for blink-and-you-miss-it starts.
We’re pretty sure the Evo driver was betting on such a launch, and yet the Mitsubishi’s transmission broke down just as the car was getting off the line.
It doesn’t have to come to such a mechanical failure in order for street racing to be dangerous, but the problem led to the Evolution blocking the lane. With the Tesla having disappeared into the horizon, the racer had no other choice but to get out of the car and push it onto the shoulder, as traffic was starting to arrive from behind.
Oh and, by the way, we’re sorry for the spoilers, but we really had to use these in order to explain the presence of the second clip below.
