The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 are far from direct rivals, but try to tell this to any drag racer and you'll be treated with a shake of the head. In fact, we're here to talk about a sprinting battle that saw the two slabs of America being thrown at each other.
Unfortunately, the drivers decided to skip the safety and the prepped surface of the drag strip, thus going at it on the street. So please don't use this as an example when the hooning urges kick in.
Now, both the Hellcat Redeye and the C7 Corvette ZR1 had been taken down the aftermarket path, even though the muscle car received much more serious work than the supercar, at least judging by what the YouTubers who own the two claim.
To be more precise, while the blown 6.2-liter V8 of the Mopar machine packs a custom exhaust and a tune, the... supercharged 6.2-liter V8 of the 'Vette comes with a GM performance intake and an x-pipe - it seems that the Hellcat Redeye now churns out around 850 ponies at the crank.
The drivers went at it on four different occasions, with the aficionado behind the wheel of the muscle removing the boot lid spoiler after the few runs and also partially closing the valves of the exhaust, in an effort to be even quicker.
As usual when it comes to this form of street racing, the machines used rolling starts, since there cause less traffic disruption and are easier to manage for the drivers.
