If you’re in the market for a strip slayer with a bad attitude, one of the most exciting choices would be the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with few tasteful modifications that would make the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 blush in awe. This Redeye, for example, is approximately 0.4 seconds faster than the mighty Demon that numbers only 3,300 units.
In addition to the usual drag radials and lightweight wheels, the build includes a 2.85 pulley. Altering the size of the pulley affects the number of pounds per square inch of boost, and as you all know, bigger bangs translate to more power. In Redeye specification, the IHI twin-screw supercharger also happens to be an idea larger at 2.7 instead of 2.4 liters for the Hellcat.
Capable of 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet (959 Nm) of torque from the factory, the Redeye in the following video has also received a ported blower from Jokerz Performance. Porting translates to better air flow, and this much air also means that the engine needs more gasoline as well. This is where Kenne Bell enters the scene with the dual boost-a-pump system, along with supporting mods such as the fuel injectors and throttle body.
Last but certainly not least, the owner of this Hellcat with only 1,000 miles (1,610 kilometers) on the clock decided on an E85 tune by Dusterhoff Tuning. 85 percent ethanol may not seem interesting to the uninitiated, but this blend has very different properties from gasoline, including higher resistance to detonation. E85 also happens to absorb heat, increasing the horsepower and torque ratings thanks to cooler and denser air entering the engine.
First time out on the blacktop, the tastefully modified Hellcat Redeye ran the quarter-mile in 9.249 seconds at 149.08 miles per hour (240 kilometers per hour). The owner of this muscled-up Mopar machine couldn’t improve his time on the final pass, settling for 9.264 seconds at 148.76 mph (239 kph).
