The Imports vs. Domestics remains one of the fiercest battlefields of the drag racing realm and the fight that brought us here is an example as good as any. This velocity brawl involves a Chevrolet Camaro and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, with the two going at it like there's no tomorrow.
Of course, none of these machines came to the fight in stock condition. And I'll start with the slab of America, since I'm aware of its output.
To be more precise, the V8 heart of the Chevy has been pushed to 580 hp, but keep in mind this is the muscle at the rear wheels. As such, it means that the muscle car packs around 680 ponies at the crank, which makes it slightly more muscular than a ZL1.
As for the Mitsu, this is an Evo VIII. And the turbo-four that occupies its engine compartment now packs a full build, with the list of goodies fitted to the engine involving items such as MAPerformance Exhaust Manifold, ported heads, 2,150cc injectors and others.
Alas, the drivers of the Camaro and the Evolution decided to skip the drag strip, duking it out on the street. This meant the two went for the good old rolling start, which causes less traffic disruption and also means none of the machines had trouble putting its power to the road (wink).
The hooners followed the one-two-three procedure, as you'll get to notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which the Camaro acting as the camera car for this velocity fight.
As far as the aural side of the confrontation is concerned, the mix between the two worlds makes for an interesting listening experience, despite the mediocre audio quality.
