In its third generation, which was only in production for two years, the Ford Ranchero also took on the Fairlane moniker, seen as how it featured a regular 1966 Ranchero body, but with a Fairlane trim. It was thus marketed as the Fairlane Ranchero.
The design proved successful, and the third-gen Ranchero established itself as somewhat of a high-performance utility vehicle, being able to keep up with many muscle cars from that era. It could do those things because top-spec variants came with a 390 ci (6.4-liter) V8 unit, putting down around 315 hp.
This one is even more special though. It’s a custom 1967 model in ‘500’ spec, getting auctioned off through Bring a Trailer with 62,000 miles (100,000 km) on its modified Windsor V8 unit. Actual vehicle mileage is said to be unknown.
According to the ad, the car was stripped down and refinished in metallic red, to go with a body-color front bumper, simulated hood scoop, gray grille and taillight trim, plus an aftermarket rear roll-pan, American Racing 15-inch wheels with Cooper Cobra Radial tires and upgraded brakes.
Moving on to the interior, which has been reupholstered, we see a black-trimmed bench seat, to match the black dashboard cover and replacement door panels. There’s also a custom steering wheel plus some new aftermarket auxiliary gauges.
As for that Windsor V8, it comes with a custom crankshaft, ported cylinder heads, custom flow valves, a Holley 670-cfm Street Avenger carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, a 2.5” dual exhaust system with electronic cut-outs, plus a number of other mods.
While we don’t know exactly how much power it’s putting down, we do know that it’s all going to the rear wheels via a three-speed C4 automatic gearbox, which also features a B&M Shift Improver kit and an aftermarket torque converter.
This isn’t exactly what we’d call a showstopping car, but it does look surprisingly good.
