Trulli Wants to Stay With Toyota

After Toyota's Formula 1 president, John Howett, said that after the European GP they will keep Timo Glock for next season, but not Jarno Trulli, the 35-year-old Italian driver declared his distress in the media.

Trulli is in his fifth season with the Japanese team and said he has very nice memories here and would like to continue with the team in 2010 as well.

"I do not know the exact quote from John, but he came back to me and apologized for what has been quoted. I have some possible contacts in place with other teams, but for now it is way too early to talk about this", said Jarno.

"The team has no budget approval for the next year until November, so the team is not able to make any decisions at all. My priority is to stay with Toyota, so once the budget is set we will sit down and discuss what is going to happen next season", disclosed the Italian F1 driver in an interview on Formula One's official website.

When asked about the team's current situation and whether he believes he will stay with them for the next season as well, Trulli said: "For all the team it is unclear, for the engineers, for the mechanics and also for the drivers. Toyota has a big number of people working in F1, so the main idea is to keep the team alive.

For me Toyota has been my family for the past five years, and I have such a good relationship with all of them, and also with the Japanese side, so for me it is clear to put my priority on staying with the team".

The Italian then revealed his Toyota TF109 competition car has potential, but for reasons the team hasn't discovered yet, its driving characteristics change unexpectedly.

"The car seems to be a mystery, as it behaves differently even without changing anything. You can feel straight away once you leave the pit whether it’s fast or not. We have analyzed everything, but we cannot come up with a solution, as these things have happened to Timo (Glock) as well as to me. It is a real shame, as the pace of the car is there", added Jarno Trulli.
