Trulli Visits Victims of Abruzzo Earthquake

Toyota's Jarno Trulli decided to take his mind off of racing for a day or two and payed an emotional visit to the region of Abruzzo, heavily affected by the 6.8 earthquake last month. Having been born and raised in the aforementioned region, Trulli visited the Onna village and the city of L'Aquila as part of his helping programme for the victims of the April catastrophe.

No less than 39 people lost their lives as a result of the earthquake in Onna, with an additional 300 (approximately) victims recorded in L'Aquila. More than 500 people are now camping in tents in the two locations, as the earthquake destroyed almost 90% of the buildings (including 99 churches in L'Aquila, a historical site for the Roman Church).

While visiting the two earthquake-affected areas, Trulli met with the people in camps and handed them some F1 souvenirs, while also a few autographs.

I was shocked to see the devastation firsthand; so many buildings have been destroyed and the effect on the people's lives is really terrible. I am doing my best to help in any way I can and everyone in Formula One has been very supportive. Hopefully we can raise a lot of money to help with reconstruction so the people of Abruzzo can return to a normal situation soon. They are in our hearts,” said Trulli, according to CAPSIS International news agency.

Several F1 drivers have decided to join Trulli in his efforts to raise funds for the Abruzzo victims, donating a number of items to be auctioned. According to the aforementioned source, some 23,000 euros have been raised in the auction so far.
