The incident happened earlier this week in Aurora. The woman was in a sedan stopped in the parking lot of a store, together with her husband and a female friend. A GMC pickup truck hailing a camping trailer hit the sedan, while making a maneuver.

The driver, identified as Henry Wardwell, got out to inspect the damage and told the sedan driver that he was getting back to his truck to get his insurance documents. The bump had been minor and the situation would have probably solved itself if he had just admitted he didn’t have an insurance.

Instead, the truck driver got back behind the wheel and fled the scene. The other 3 pursued him and eventually got him to pull over, which is when the victim and Wardwell got into an argument. Powell-Brown was on the driver’s side when they started screaming at each other and the truck driver made a sudden U-turn and sped off.

She was hit and dragged under the trailer, police tell the publication. Her body was found blocks away from the place the argument started. She was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

“It was a private property small fender-bender in a parking lot and Mr. Wardwell didn’t have insurance,” Aurora police Lt. Jad Lanigan explains. “He was like, ‘Okay well I bumped into your car, so let me go back to my car and I will get my insurance’ - and then he left the scene of the accident without exchanging information.”

An eyewitness told the police that it’s possible Wardwell didn’t know he was dragging the woman’s body under his camping trailer. When police pulled him over, he rushed to the trailer and swallowed a handful of pills, telling them he was “dying.” He said his life was spinning out of control so he wanted to kill himself.

Wardwell is now in custody and faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving a vehicle while his license had been revoked for alcohol / habitual traffic offender, reckless driving, and operating an uninsured vehicle on a public road.
