Truck Crashes on Ohio Highway, Over 2,000 Piglets Run Loose

We reckon you are familiar with the expression 'when pigs fly', but today we found out that pigs can also crash after a truck went off the road and allowed over 2,000 piglets to escape on a highway in Ohio.

We deal with a lot of crashes here at autoevolution, and although we use most of them as educational materials under the 'don't ever do that' label, you don't get to see every day a truck filled with baby pigs crashing on the highway. Talking about road hogging, huh?

According to NBC News, the accident took place on U.S. Route 35 in Xenia, southeast of Dayton. The crash was reported at 7:00 PM ET and as you would expect, fire squads, paramedics, police officers and citizens rushed to the site.

The same source reports that one passenger of the truck was taken to the hospital. However, the cargo was a big surprise for all those present at the scene of the crash, and, believe it or not, more than five departments found themselves actively collecting piglets on the scene.

Up until this moment, authorities managed to catch around 1,500 piglets, but 200 to 300 baby pigs weren't that lucky and were killed by the impact. The remaining piglets are believed to have taken shelter in the nearby woods, which will make their capture a lot harder, if not impossible.

However, we are wondering whether this was really an accident or the piglets came up with an escape plan that would set them free. In any case, this is the kind of sight you don't see every day but we're happy no human lives were lost.
