Whether you enjoyed or not the original Tron movie or the new Legacy title is of a lesser importance, because one thing is sure: the Tron cycle is one of the iconic two-wheelers in the industry, and has served as inspiration to countless other designs. Even if this is not the actual bike from the movie, but a full-fledged, working replica, its uniqueness is more than enough to make it a highly sought-after collector’s piece. And now this Tron cycle is up for grabs, at a RM Auctions/ Sotheby’s event in Texas.
The Tron: Legacy light cycle is part of the Andrews Collection and was built especially for Andrews by a third-party manufacturer. The build was completed in Andrews’ shop, so what you’re seeing is most likely a one-of-a-kind machine. Paul Andrews and his son Chris said that they are willing to part with some items in their collection, and the light cycle is one of them.

“We want to get down to a smaller number of cars – perhaps 15 to 20 – that we very much enjoy driving and that we can use on events with the family. There are a number of events we’d still like to try overseas and here in the United States, and in order to do that, we need to focus on a more manageable collection,” added Chris Andrews.

You just don’t get to see a fully functional, good-looking, impeccable Tron light cycle every day… unless you own one

The Tron: Legacy replica is powered by a direct-drive 96V electric motor fed by a lithium battery pack and has a computer-controlled throttle. The rear suspension is a hardtail-type assembly which might prove to be less than comfortable for longer rides, but the front end is fully-loaded. The front suspension is fully-adjustable, sports rebound and compression damping and spring preload. Hydraulic brakes are standard for the Tron cycle.

One lucky bidder will get his or her hands on this bike in as-new condition, as the Tron light cycle replica was only ridden several times around Andrews’ facilities to make sure it remains in full working condition. The 2nd of May auction for the Tron: Legacy motorcycle has no reserve and is expected to bring $25,000-$40,000 (€22,800-36,500).
