Triumph's New Cruisers with Harley-Davidson Disguise

MCN has revealed some spy shots of two upcoming Triumph cruisers, pretty carefully disguised as Harley-Davidson parts. Aside from the fact that Triumph is clearly aiming to get a larger chunk of the cruiser cake, we're not sure if we like the direction the British manufacturer is following.

That is, we're alright with all the brands in the world battling H-D, even though the Milwaukee machines have an extremely solid foothold in each place they're present. But following the lines of the H-D up to the point where the new Triumph cruisers look like copies of the Road King and Electra Glide is a bit on the wrong side.

We're not sure how many fellows would buy a bike which only looks like Harley-Davidson... and we really fail to understand how loading these Triumphs with the 1699cc parallel-twin power unit in the Thunderbird Storm could rival with the big-bore H-D engines.

One of the key elements of owning a Harley, setting aside the “HOG pride” and similar stuff, is the specific rumble of the engine. For reasons which seem yet mysterious, the large cruiser machines are associated with the v-twin sound, and this will likely go on for a long time.

MCN reports that we might see the 3-headlight Road King-wannabe Triumph as soon as late2013 or early 2014, whereas their sources mention that the Electra Glide-ish cruiser is yet far from a finished stage.
