Triumph's Indian Offensive Continues with the 11th Showroom, 13 Models Available

It's not a secret that Triumph has very big plans in India. The development of a small-displacement Triumph motorbike seems to have so far come to a halt (at least this is what the lack of relevant news indicates) but almost all models are being sold in India.

Triumph is also working on building a local plant in India, an enterprise that will allow the Brits to offer Triumph machinery assembled locally from CKD imports and thus escape the huge taxes, providing more affordable bikes for the Indian and other surrounding markets.

The 11th Triumph dealership was just inaugurated in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Thirteen Triumph models will be available, including Bonneville and Bonneville T100, Speed Triple, Street Triple, Thruxton, Tiger XRx, Tiger XCx, Tiger Explorer XC, Thunderbird Storm and the Thunderbird LT. High-performance sport bikes such as the Daytona 675 and 675R have also been included on the list, while the Rocket III powercruiser is also available.

No Scrambler and no sport-touring machines on the list

The Scrambler is probably the biggest name missing from the list, while Triumph also refrains from adding the sport-touring Sprint GT and Trophy to the Indian roster.

It would be interesting to find out why Triumph made such a decision. The Scrambler model may have too much overlap with both the Bonnie and the Thruxton on one hand, and the existing Royal Enfield classic machines on the other, so maybe the sales prospects were too gloomy to add it to the line-up. As for the touring machines, it looks like they aren't that much of a big hit, so maybe Triumph thought it's not worth the effort.

Triumph's development as a brand accelerated in the last years, and the company recently reached the value of over one billion pounds ($1.577 billion or €1.430 billion). Remains to be seen whether the 18.7% market share Triumph enjoys in the UK will reflect in a strong growth in foreign markets.
