It looks like a massive wave of changes will bring a breath of fresh air for Triumph, as multiple models are rumored to undergo a series of very important upgrades. We already told you about some of the changes envisaged for the Tiger Explorer and is now time to bring the Street Triple in the spotlight.
The 675cc triple is rumored to gain extra ccs and tap into the 800cc-class, thus making it a better rival for the bevy of triple-cylinder bikes arriving this year from MV Agusta. Unlike the approach Triumph had to the Street Triple so far, we may expect up to four versions of the bike.
This rumor is also consistent with what we saw happening in the adventure segment, with a wide variety of suffixes introducing as many versions of the Tiger 800, aimed at meeting the needs of virtually any rider. Seeing Triumph expanding this philosophy to more models is a good indication that the house of Hinckley has solid plans to up their game.
MCN believes that the base version of the Street Triple will produce around 110 hp, a rather mild, 5 hp upgrade from what the current model can deliver. The R-suffixed version will receive 5 extra horsies, Showa suspension and Nissin radial brakes, thus sharing the suspension with the RT model.
However, the Street Triple RT, in case the charts surfaced by MCN are real, will pack 125 hp, being on par with the RS version. If RT sounds somewhat familiar, you're right: it will be a more touring-oriented machine, with an optional half-fairing, aux power socket, tire pressure sensors, and an accessory luggage system.
The top-of-the-line Street Triple RS replaces the Showa suspensions with Ohlins units, and will use Brembo radial monoblock calipers. Apart from the base Street Triple, which will sport LCD instrumentation and LED sidelights, the rest of the bikes are rumored to received high-definition TFT screen dashes with LED daytime riding lights.
The same separation between models will be made in terms of electronics, as the R and RT are said to have three riding modes, while RS customers will be able to choose from no less than five, including a Track mode.
Prices are rumored to range from £7,790 (€11,185 or $12,175, UK price) to £10,190 (€14,660 or $15,925, UK price), according to what looks like a brochure for internal use at Triumph, whose authenticity needs, however, to be confirmed yet. The new Speed Triple is said to arrive in late 2016 as a 2017 model year line-up.
