Triumph’s current production capacity of 50,000 bikes per year may skyrocket ten times, closer to 500,000 units per year, after they finalize their Indian plant, in the Karnataka region of the country. The firm currently builds its bikes in its home-factory of Hinckley, as well as Thailand, where they opened their first production facility outside the UK.
The Indian factory will first have a capacity of 250,000 units per year, rising to 500,000 once the second phase of their plan is completed - an expansion to the factory. However, the new plant will most likely produce small capacity single-cylinder bikes, which will be cheap to make and sell, while also appealing to the Indian market, where most bikes are under the 250cc mark.
Triumph will invest an estimated €125-million in the facility, and it should be completed and ready in 2015. With this factory, the British bike manufacturer will join Yamaha and Honda in the quest to win over the Indian market.
