If you thought that old Velocettes were lazy and only good for cruising around the block, here's Suart Hopper and his 1959 Venom, racing once more at Lake Gairdner, A ustralia, and having just done 171.600 mph (276.104 km/h).
Hopper and his old Velocette Venom has thus established three new records: World's Fastest Velocette, World's Fastest British Single and the World's Fastest Single Cylinder Sit On Motorcycle. After initially reaching 166 mph (267.094 km/h) on the second run and becoming the fastest British single bike in the world, surpassing the Vincent Might Mouse of Bryan Chapman, Stuart decided he should make some more attempts.

With the head and gusting crosswinds slowing down a bit to 7-10 mph (11-16 km/h), his Big Velo was finally able to push the speed limits even further and bring both rider and bike back into the record books. So you better think twice before deciding to get rid of that old Velocette laying around in your barn... it may be more to it than meets the eye!
