Trident Racing Sign Davide Rigon for Asia Series

Trident Racing have announced the replacement of Adrian Valles with former Euroseries 3000 champion Davide Rigon ahead of the next GP2 Asia Series race in Qatar. The Italian will therefore make his first appearance in the GP2 Series and expressed hopes to hang on to this racing seat until the final race of the Asia season.

“I'm really honoured to have this new opportunity. First, this deal will finally get me back in an open-wheel car after more than two months while, second, the agreement with Trident Racing will enable me to get in touch with the team that I hope to partner during the GP2 main series in 2009,” said Rigon after being confirmed by the Italian team.

Rigon has won the Euroseries 3000 title in 2007, before stepping into the inaugural Superleague Formula last year. He went on to represent Chinese football club Beijing Guoan and clinched the title at debut. His first experience with a GP2 Series car was back in 2007, when test-driving for FMS International. He also got to test-drive a Barwa Campos car in late October, 2008.

Not only he will be making his debut in the GP2 Series in late February, but he will also get to compete in GP2's very first night race. However, Rigon doesn't seem too worried about the prospect of racing at night, as he has participated in the Spa 24 Hours endurance race (GT2 class) last year. This will also be the first time GP2 Asia Series will visit Qatar since its inaugural edition last year.

“I'll find a totally unknown track at Qatar, but the difficulties will be balanced by the fascinating night atmosphere, which will be also new to everybody. I really respect the GP2 field, which features several true top-class drivers, and I don't know what to expect in terms of results, but the primary goal for this race will be to create a strong relationship with the team - and avoid making mistakes,” added Rigon.
