The British sportscar manufacturer Trident has today unveiled a vehicle that can do some pretty amazing things. It's being heralded as the world fastest diesel sportscar and can run for up to 2,000 miles (3200 kilometers) on a single tank of mineral or bio-diesel. Yes, that includes cooking oil, linseed, palm, soya bean oil and whatever else you can think of.
A total of three models will be available: a convertible which was previously announced and two new models unveiled today, the Iceni Magna (fastback) & Iceni Venturer (estate). All three use the same 6.6-liter V8 and a "unique torque multiplication technology" to achieve its impressive performance figures.
Trident says its patented torque system allows the Iceni vehicle to achieve fuel efficiency up to 20 percent greater than that of cars in its class. We'll leave it up to you to decide what cars they are talking about, because this has to be the only 6.6-liter diesel sportscar we know of.
Putting down solid figures of 424bhp (430 PS) and 950 lf-ft (1288 lb-ft) of torque, they are reasonably powerful. However, upgrades are available which take the output to 651bhp (660 PS) and 1057 lb-ft (1433 lb-ft).
The company has clocked an official time or speed yet, but says the Iceni has "a top speed in excess of over 190mph" or 306 km/h and will do 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
This TVR lookalike running on diesel can be yours for just £96,000 to £126,000 (€116,000 to €152,000).
