Tricyles in Philippines to Get CNG Technology

Though getting things greener has been done in a lot of ways, people are still thinking outside the box and coming up with new ways to solve problems. One of the best examples is the effort of Energetek Inc, a company which worked together with Philippine's Ministry of Transportation in order to perfect a CNG Lite system for small vehicles. And when we say small vehicles, we actually mean tricycles.

The alliance has finished a road test that started in mid-2009, which consisted of driving in Metro Manilla for several months. According to the results, CNG systems are safe so official inclusion of three-wheeled vehicles in the Philippine's Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport (NGVPPT) is even closer than before.

Metro Manilla suffers as millions of gasoline powered tricycles are used in the area and, apparently, they are the cause of dangerous pollution levels. Including tricycles in the NGVPPT program will solve the problem, as well as vehicles operating on natural gas. Such a conversion will also help the Philippines reduce their dependence on foreign oil.

"Completion of the lengthy field test proves the effectiveness of the CNG Lite(TM) conversion system and moves Energtek one step closer to our goal of converting massive numbers of tricycles in the Philippines,"
said Energtek CEO Lev Zaidenberg. "CNG Lite(TM) enables the use of cheaper and cleaner motor fuel that will benefit tricycle drivers economically, while contributing to local ecological improvement. Converting these vehicles to operate on natural gas provide benefits for the entire population."
