The future of the GT 86 is safe, as negotiations with Subaru have already begun for the next generation. While Scion's FR-S is gone, America can finally call it '86' starting with the 2017 model year.
We may also see this cool-looking body kit from Japan, but not yet. Over in the 86's home town, it's common to be able to buy tuning packages through the official dealership. This one comes from the in-house TRD division and have been tailored to match the features of the 2017 model year.

We start off at the front with a new chin air splitter painted black. You can either have this with extra integrated LEDs or without, in which case it's almost half the price. There are also body-colored inserts that fit under the fog lights. Down the side, we notice black rocker pannels and stripes at the shoulder line.

Meanwhile, the trunk features the same upper spoiler, while the diffuser tail and quad exhaust makes the 86 look like a fake Ferrari F12berlinetta.

The performance upgrades can be both serious and pointless. For example, at 360,000 yen, the GT Wing is a hardcore piece of carbon fiber kit. The fully adjustable track suspension from TRD is also available, while braces can be fitted to both the underbody and the under-hood tower. If you plan on doing any serious track action, consider adding the tire pressure and digital temperature gauge to your shopping list. TRD also offers super-lightweight 18-inch forged aluminum alloys from its own collection or two 17-inch alternatives, from SARD and TOM'S.

And then you arrive at the silly stuff. For example, the space behind the door handles can be covered in faux carbon and the hood can be supported by double hydraulic dampers. Not happy with the shape of your number plate holder? TRD have new bolts for that.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
