There’s nothing better than a bout between two friends to create an incredible spectacle, and the ones who were paying attention this week during the Hoonigan Tangents Live got just that, and a major surprise to go with it: an invite made by Ken Block to Travis Pastrana for a very special installment of Gymkhana.
To sum up what happened, Block and Pastrana have been at it for a while now, throwing challenges at each other from the confinement of their own homes. Bored because of the lockdowns, the two have been entertaining their audiences with crazy stunts and gimmicks.
During the Hoonigan show, one thing led to another until Block threw something that was to good to refuse at Pastrana: the chance to shoot his own Gymkhana installment this year, together with Subaru and the Hoonigan Media.
All the parts involved agreed, so there you have it: this year we’ll have some new Gymkhana magic, this time performed by Travis Pastrana. And we’re promised something we’ve never seen before.
“What Ken has done with Gymkhana over the years has really been amazing,” said Pastrana in a statement.
“But I think he made a big mistake giving me a shot at doing one of my own! I’ve got some ideas that I think can blow Ken’s videos out of the water, and Subaru is on board to provide a car to do it. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be unlike any Gymkhana you’ve ever seen before.”
On its part, Subaru jumped on board by announcing it will develop the hero vehicle for the project, but didn’t say what the car will be other than it will be derived from the carmaker’s rally and rallycross experience.
Also, the exact location and release date for the new Gymkhana installment will be announced at a later date.
