Hitting the road with the fam (or friends) doesn’t have to take a toll on your wallet or raise your stress levels even more. You can still “rough it up” in great style, with a trailer that comes with many green credentials and more tech than your actual home, and the only dent in your wallet would be the initial cost of the trailer itself.
That said, the Bowlus Road Chief caravans are in a league of their own. They’re not cheap and they’re not basic by any means, catering to the most discerning travelers looking to travel in the same comfort and luxury of their home. The Endless Highways series, with prices starting at $185,000 and “millions” of customization options, is already pretty exclusive.

If you’re feeling extra picky or fancy, there’s an even more exclusive riff on that series. Launched in the second half of 2019, the Wave Bespoke Limited Edition turns the Bowlus Road Chief Endless Highways caravan into something that looks like a racing yacht and is even able to recreate that floating feeling when traveling aboard.

The Wave, as it’s called for short, was indeed inspired by racing yachts, from the shape of the rear to the interior design, but it’s still an Endless Highways caravan. An upgraded, fancier, more sustainable one, that is.

Measuring 26 feet (7.9 meters) in length, The Wave represents the ultimate Road Chief minimalist luxury, with a naval theme on top. Divided into three main areas (cooking at the front with a fully-stocked kitchenette, living / dining area area in the main cabin, and sleeping area with ensuite), it’s spacious and comfortable, and tech-packed to deliver the best on-road experience.

The exterior is the same as with the Endless Highways series, made of aircraft-grade, polished aluminum shell with a hand-polished mirror finish that guarantees privacy. The shell is light and has a low center of gravity and high ground clearance, with Bowlus Road Chief saying it can be easily towed by almost all crossovers, SUVs, and even EVs.

Inside, finishes are made of warm walnut and blonde birch with metallic accents, in keeping with the nautical theme, while linens are in blues and whites. There’s organic vegan fabric that resembles suede on the couches, so the promise of The Wave being more eco-friendly is kept where interior design is concerned as well. Also part of the nautical theme are wall-mounted meteorological instruments and a road journal, to document every day of your awesome adventure.

Like with the Endless Highways series, The Wave comes with its own residential-style bathroom. The ensuite is “pop up,” in the sense that it’s created by shutting doors to the sleeping and dining area, which opens up the space of the bathroom. It comes with his and hers closets, vanity with sink and even more storage, a toilet, and a considerably-sized shower room that can be extended on the outside through the emergency exit.

The sleeping area comprises twin beds that expand to a king-size bed, and there’s additional sleeping for two more in the dining area, on the couches. The Wave is made to accommodate four people, making it an ideal family vehicle. Heated floors and AC, and constant hot water are meant to make life on the road not that different in terms of creature comforts from life back home.

The Wave comes with cellular booster, cell-enabled router and private WiFi network, as well as smart connectivity, which means you can use your cell phone to monitor all activity and decide when it’s time to head back to civilization.

Speaking of which, The Wave packs 4 kWh of lithium-iron-phosphate batteries and a 2,000W inverter, which guarantee one week of completely off-grid living. That one week can be extended indefinitely with an additional solar panel, which can be tucked away into the trailer’s shell to not hinder aerodynamics. The Bluetooth-enabled app will also allow you to track your power usage, effectively keeping you from running our of juice in the middle of nowhere.

Pricing for the Bowlus Road Chief Endless Highways Wave Bespoke Edition (wow, try saying that in one single breath!) starts at $225,000 and future owners can add certain modifications to the base model. The Wave will only be made in limited numbers, so if you have this kind of money to spare, now is probably the time to invest in your next green, luxury home on wheels.
