Cars transforming into robots, dinosaurs or other things is a popular toy concept started back in the 1980s, morphing into different series of toys, TV shows and even video games. And if Transformers is the mainstream brand, instantly recognizable by anyone everywhere, Japan has the Diarobo current.

Pokemon, Digmon... Transformers, Diarobo... They are all the same concept but in a slightly different form. If Pokemon had collectable and tamable living creatures, Digimon was doing the same thing with digital creatures from a parallel universe that originated from Earth’s various communication networks, hence its name - Digital Monsters.

Same goes with the Transformers and Diarobo series, only that the latter features cars that are transforming into robot dinosaurs or just robots, because reasons of course, and they appear to be all based on Toyota vehicles.

So, if in Transformers you have the Bumblebee Camaro, in Diarobo you can meet the robot GT 86, while Optimus Prime can relate to a tiger FJ Cruiser. The lineup adds a robot Tyrannosaurus disguised as a Hiace and a robot Pterodactyl in the shape of a taxi Prius.

The series probably contains a lot more models, but Japanese isn’t quite our native language and searching for something known only around there is not the easiest thing to do. However, we found some of the models with video presentations and if your collection needs to be spread, these things can be easily found on Amazon for around ¥300 - ¥600.

Check them out bellow.
