If you've ordered a BMW X model and are expecting to take delivery, you better check with your dealer to see whether your car was on the horror train that spilled roughly $6 million worth of Bavarian SUVs into the gutter.
The train, made up of two engines and 12 rail cars, was traveling from BMW's plant in Greer to the Port of Charleston, meaning they were all destined for abroad markets. In the images, we can see all kinds of X models, ranging from the smallest X1 to the X6 SAV.

The cause of the accident which happened close to Kenkinsville is yet unknown, but both locomotives, as well as the 12 train cars, were damaged, together with the tracks themselves. KWES, the outlet reporting the news, describes the scene as being "littered with mangled steel." Luckily, nobody suffered any injuries.

"On Sunday afternoon, 12 Norfolk Southern rail cars derailed as BMW X models were traveling by rail to the Port of Charleston for export overseas. About 120 BMWs have been damaged as a result of the derailment," the official BMW statement said. "BMW personnel are traveling to the scene and will assess the damage to these 120 BMWs. We will continue to work with Norfolk Southern in this situation to assess the damages."

It looks like the BMW people will have a lot of work to do as the SUVs appear to be in pretty bad shape. But now that we know there were no human injuries, we can safely say that the ones who will suffer the most as a result of this derailment are those who placed the downpayment for the Xs.

There's nothing more frustrating than thinking the delivery date is getting closer, only to receive a phone call from the dealership informing you there was some problem with the shipping and your car is totalled, which means you're back at the start of the waiting line. But it's OK, they'll give you an air freshener on the house.
