After the majestic E30 M3 was laid to rest, BMW had to come up with something even better. The problem was it would’ve been terribly hard to do so. The E36 model that followed was never given the proper credit it deserved.

The chassis of the new car, some say, was even better than on its predecessor, whilst technical advancements made it easier to live with. Those and other reasons made this editor reconsider the place of the E36 M3 in the glorious line-up it shares with the E30, E46 and E92 models.

To this day enthusiast still use the E36 M3 on tracks and tune it into oblivion. One beautiful example is featured on Tron music, in the video below. This one has quite some mods on it, like: a completely new suspension, Sunbelt Stage 2 cams, AA with 3 inch custom exhaust and a gutted interior, all of them to prepare the car for the track.

Of course, since this model is already impressive on the track in stock guise, only a limited amount of changes was necessary. On the track this car feels at home, inside the city, not so much, as you’re about to see.
