Track Day Aston Martin... The Vantage GT4

Aston Martin recently unveiled their latest track day car, the GT4, and without being to bold, we think it's the best looking track day car (lots of) money can buy.

What they did was to take the old Aston Martin N24 and throw the old asthmatic engine away. They replaced it with a 4.7 liter unit, for a bit more punch. The new powerplant is said to be more responsive and to offer more torque. The suspension has been modified as well, and it is a little bit more forgiving for the driver. Additionally, the brake discs have increased in size, while cooling has been improved

“In the last two years, the N24 has proved to be one of the most successful cars in its class; winning the Nurburgring 24 Hours this year, as well as several FIA GT4 races,” said David Richards, Aston Martin's chairman . “We have built on this success to develop the Vantage GT4, a competitive racing car for professional and semi-professional drivers, but also a forgiving car which will appeal to enthusiasts who wish to use it for track days and club racing,” he added.

The Vantage GT4 is built to compete in the following series: FIA GT4 European Cup; British GT4 Championship; Britcar Endurance Series; German GT4 Championship; Dutch Supercar Challenge; Dutch GT4 Championship; VLN Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring; Australian Endurance Championship; the American SCCA Championship; and the Aston Martin Owners Club Race Series.

You can order the GT4 with either a manual gearbox or an automatic, called the sportshift. It is priced at £96,645 and if you order it now, it's yours in January 2009.

The new Aston is clearly aimed at non experienced audiences because they've included safety options like dynamic stability control, traction control, ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution, so you don't end up in a tree like Top Gear USA's Eric Stromer.
