Speed Phenom has uploaded yet another clip of his mid-engine ‘Vette at the Willow Springs Raceway in Southern California. After racing the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a comparison with the YouTuber’s own Shelby Mustang GT500, now we’re treated to a few hot laps in the company of European exotics and a few more notable machines.
As the headline implies and as the video description reads, we’re dealing with the Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren 600LT, and McLaren 720S against the C8 Corvette in Stingray flavor and a dash of Z51 Performance Package. The track battle isn’t a competitive affair but a track day where people enjoy themselves, trying to hit their own and their cars’ limits.
The mid-engine sports car is hot on the heels of the 458 Italia in the first part of the video but doesn’t manage to pass the Italian stallion. We’re then treated to a Camaro Gen 6, most likely an SS with the 1LE Track Package. The Chevy driver doesn’t put up a fight, letting Speed Phenom pass him. The same can be said about the McLaren 600LT, a rarefied breed as well as a thriller in the corners when driven with the right set of skills.
Not one, but two Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio models are also featured, as well as a couple of 911s and a BMW M4 Convertible, a Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster and a C7 Corvette Stingray Z51 by the looks of it, and a McLaren 675LT. Notice there’s something missing from the list? The 720S that Speed Phenom mentioned in the video description is actually the 675LT at the end of the video, so yeah, it’s a false alarm. Right, moving on!
The takeaway from this clip isn’t that the C8 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a great car on the track. We know it is from countless tests and comparisons against the seventh generation. The takeaway I’m referring to is that most of the other drivers – if not all of them – have let Speed Phenom pass them to admire the mid-engine sports car from Bowling Green.
