Kirobo, the robot astronaut, has become the first robot ever to speak in space and Toyota has just released the first video from the 18-month long mission on the International Space Station.
Kirobo’s space mission started on August 4th, when it was launched in space from Tanegashima Space Center in Japan. Sitting on top of the H-IIB Launch Vehicle was Kounotori 4, a Japanese cargo vehicle containing the 34 cm robot. After six days in orbit, Kounotori 4 was plucked from space by the crew and they retrieved the humanoid robot.

Now, after Kirobo gave “his” message to the whole world, “he” will wait for JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata that will arrive on the space station between November and December. Once on-borad, Wakata will take part in the first-ever conversation held between a human being and a robot in space.
