Toyota Will Not Recall Old Corollas for Sudden Acceleration Issues

We'll test your memory on this one, but all Toyota fans and petrolheads, in general, should be familiar to the unintended acceleration issue that hit Toyota some time ago.
This unwanted occurrence was spotted in older Corollas and, as a result, around 141 complaints have been filed on this matter, including a petition that claimed "low-speed surging in the 2006-2010 Toyota Corolla [vehicles] with ETCS-i, in which the brakes fail to stop the vehicle in time to prevent a crash".

Sure, some argued that drivers were pressing the gas instead of the brake pedal or floor mats were the cause for accelerators being trapped.

Unlucky for them and Toyota, these were not the cause. For example, a Toyota owner from Bristol said that his wife was making a slow right turn into a parking space when the car started to accelerate all of the sudden. Long story short, the woman was taken by surprise - I mean, who wouldn't be - and the Corolla ended up hitting a parked Jeep.

Why did we bother telling you all this? Simple. Toyota will not recall any model and will not be investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In case you're wondering why, the NHTSA didn't find a defect related to motor safety. Moreover, the Bristol family's car was tested, and results concluded that the brakes were capable of keeping the vehicle from moving at full throttle.

Here's what the NHTSA had to say on the matter:

"NHTSA conducted a technical review of the material cited and provided by the petitioner, material Toyota submitted in response to a NHTSA formal request, interviews with complainants and manufacturer representatives, as well as the results of testing of the complaint vehicle. [...] NHTSA has concluded that further investigation of the issues raised by the petition is not warranted. The agency accordingly has denied the petition".
