Toyota Will Give Money to Dealers

Though Toyota is in a lot of trouble, the Japanese keep an open mind and think about all repercussions. The automaker decided to help out its dealers in these tough times. And what better way of helping them than writing a check?

Toyota will give the dealers amounts ranging from $7,500 to $75,000 depending on the number of cars the dealer sold in 2009. In order to get the maximum amount, a dealer must have sold more than 4,000 vehicles. The money are dedicated to offering support for the affected customers, says autonews.com.

“We continue to have full confidence and trust in our dealers’ ability to take care of Toyota owners, and this is where we want to help,” Toyota Division General Manager Bob Carter wrote in an e-mail to dealers dated Tuesday, February 2.“Within the next several days, you will receive a check from us (no strings attached) with a simple request -- ‘do the right thing on behalf of Toyota customers,” he continued.

For some of the dealers without imagination, Carter gave some examples of good will gestures made by some dealers throughout the US: “extending service hours, adding greeters to their service drives, dedicating body shop capacity to expedite repairs, providing carwashes, increasing owner communication (and) providing complimentary maintenance service.”

“Dealers know the most appropriate and effective actions to take within their markets to begin restoring the confidence and trust customers place in us. Many of these actions cost money,” Carter added.

“I’m really impressed with Toyota,” said Rene Isip, owner of a Toyota store in Lewisville, Texas. “I’ll use the money to give customers certificates for things like free oil changes.”
