Toyota Verso Steering Wheel Might Come Off - Recall

Do you know those cartoon scenes when the character is driving, something wrong happens and ends up with the steering wheel completely detached off the steering column? Its funny because you never heard such a thing could happen in real life, right? Well, if you have a 2013 Toyota Verso it can be possible if it was made in Turkey.

We’re not kidding, if you bought a Toyota Verso made in Turkey between May and August 2013, the nut that’s holding the wheel attached to the steering column might have not been correctly tightened during manufacture, so try not to pull the steering towards you too much.

“The problem may result in the steering making an abnormal noise, with the driver experiencing a degree of free play in the wheel. Over time there may be a risk of the nut becoming fully detached,” said a Toyota spokeswoman.

There are about 7,500 Verso models that may be affected by this issue according to Toyota’s report and a recall has been started. Owners will be notified via telephone or first class mail and advised to take their vehicle back to the dealership where technicians will verify and tighten the nut with the correct degree of torque free of charge.

No incidents have been reported so far regarding this steering wheel issue.
