Set to make debut in a couple of days, the new RoboCop movie follows the story of Alex Murphy - a loving husband, father and good cop who gets shot by some gang members in a near-future crime-ridden Detroit and then gets back to live as a cyborg.
Which is basically the same as in the 1987 RoboCop film, where the same cop terminally wounded in a dystopic and crime-ridden Detroit returns in the business as a powerful cyborg.

Well, since the producers of the original movie nailed the story with the future crime-ridden Detroit and only about 14 years take us apart from the action in this year’s film, lets see if the new one does the same with the vehicles from out near future.

Talking with MotorTrend, film’s production designer Martin Whist explains how did he came up with the look of the cars we’ll see in the movie.

“We're in the future, so I had to do as best I could a reshaping of the vehicles to allude to the fact they're a different design. We're not very far into the future, so we didn't want to have flying cars.”

“I filled wheel wells and I shaved-off handles and changed rearview mirrors and changed the lines and tinting on the glass and made them all electric,” he continues.

And basically, that’s how you end up with this near-future Toyota Venza, one of the main actors’ family vehicle. With today vehicles tending to go streamline and electric, we think Martin did a pretty good job with this one. Just imagine it having a fuel cell under its hood.
