Available in SR5, Limited, and Platinum flavor, the 2017 Toyota Sequoia continues to be offered with a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8. The unit is good for 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft (544 Nm) of torque, producing 90 percent of that oomph from 2,200 rpm. This engine provides the Sequoia with a maximum tow rating of 7,400 pounds with the adequate equipment.

8 colors make the exterior paint palette, while fuel economy is rated at 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway. The 8-seat SUV prides itself on as much as 120.1 cubic feet (3,400 liters) of cargo room. Standard bits and bobs for the entry-level Sequoia SR5 include fog lamps, roof rack, power tilt & slide moonroof, tri-zone climate control, 8-way power driver’s seat, plus a multi-function steering wheel.

One trim level above the SR5, the Sequoia Limited model adds sonar parking assist front and rear, power liftgate with sliding window, 20-inch wheels, leather on the steering wheel, heated and power adjustable front seats, and second- and third-row retractable sunshades.

At the top of the food chain, the Toyota Sequoia in Platinum form ups the ante with three-mode electronic damper control, air suspension, wireless headphones, Blu-ray rear seat entertainment system with a 9-inch screen, Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, and power seat memory package.

For MY 2017, the Sequoia comes with Smart Stop Technology brake override on the 2WD model and Active Traction Control on the 4WD model. A-TRAC replaces yesteryear’s TRAC system. The Toyota Star Safety System is there to make sure everything is nice and tidy thanks to electronic nannies such as Vehicle Stability Management and Electronic Brake-force Distribution.

As ever, the optional Multi-Mode 4WD system makes use of a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential and a two-speed transfer case. Low range mode is accessible via a rotary knob. The center diff, on the other hand, can be locked with the simple push of a button. Every 2017 Toyota Sequoia comes with a 36-month/36,000-mile new-vehicle warranty that applies to all components except for maintenance items. 2 years or 25,000 miles of complimentary factory-scheduled maintenance is also included.
