Toyota Unveils iQ GRMN Racing Concept in Tokyo

Japanese automaker Toyota has recently unveiled the iQ GRMN Racing Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The model is based on the 2009 iQ GRMN limited edition, which sold out in one week. The car was developed in partnership with Gazoo Racing and MN tuning, and features extensive modifications both to cosmetic and performance-related.

“Small in size but big in attitude, a pumped-up, track-ready interpretation of the super-smart iQ city car leads a posse of tuned and tweaked Toyota concept and production cars at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The world's largest annual aftermarket parts show, taking place (14 to 16 January) gives leading tuning firms and custom car specialists the chance to demonstrate their engineering and design skills, from mild sports accoutrements to the wilder fringes of auto design,” states the press release announcing the Tokyo Auto Salon unveiling.

Stand-out features for the Racing Concept include its deep front air dam, huge lower air intake and lightweight racing wheels. It also comes with wide-body kit, a massive chin-spoiler, a rear diffuser to suck the car down at high speed and a dual racing exhaust system. Inside, the car boasts sport seats, a full roll cage, alloy pedals, and new instrumentation.

It’s not all show and no go, as unofficial information circulating the web suggest the car is powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder with approximately 89 kW (119 hp / 121 PS) and 158 Nm (117 lb-ft) of torque.

The Toyota stand at the Tokyo Auto Salon also featured such heresies as the Toyota Prius G Sports Concept and Vitz G Sports Concept, which feature the kinds of faces only a mother could love.
