Toyota TogetherGreen Grants Announced

Lagging behind when it comes to developing new electric vehicle technologies (a strange approach, considering the fact that Toyota has practically invented the hybrids with the Prius), the Japanese are making progress in awarding others for their green endeavors.

Toyota announced today the recipients of the TogetherGreen Innovation Grants, a long list of no less than 43 environmental projects that received or will receive a total of $1.1 million. The projects include everything from repairing the damages caused by the spill in the Gulf of Mexico to conservation internships for urban teenagers.

“Toyota has a long history of utilizing technical innovation to preserve natural resources, reduce waste, and improve sustainability,” said Patricia Salas Pineda, Toyota’s group vice president of national philanthropy and the Toyota USA Foundation.

Each of the program will receive anywhere in between $5,000 - $66,100 to satisfy their needs. Toyota has set aside a total of $20 million for the program for a period of five years. This third year of TogetherGreen it will spread the money through 27 states.

“The conservation solutions pioneered by TogetherGreen Innovation Grant winners are inspiring models of both ingenuity and conservation commitment,” said David Yarnold, president of Toyota's partner for the project, Audubon.

“Each project represents an investment in our shared environment and future – and an opportunity for many of our nation’s most creative and dedicated individuals and communities to transform their dreams into effective conservation action. As our alliance with Toyota shows, when organizations work together, they can magnify conservation results."
