Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) is now targeting the new FIA R3C rally category and wants to build a special GT 86 model according to the class’ specs.
The R3C class dictates that in order to participate, a vehicle must have a normally aspirated engine ranging from 1.6 to 2 liters, have a minimum weight of 1,080 kg (2,381 lbs) and be two-wheel driven.

With the numbers being given, TMG plans to build the rally-spec car using the existing GT 86 CS-V3. The engineers will have to modify the engine, upgrade the brakes and install a sequential six-speed gearbox which will also be connected to a limited-slip differential.

TMG expects to put out the new rally GT 86 by the beginning of the 2015 motorsport season. Further specifications and price for the special coupe will be announced in the upcoming months.
