Word has it Toyota will drop the regular cab Tacoma midsize pickup as of 2015, when the third-generation midsize truck will arrive.
According to Truck Trend, Toyota is looking to streamline the vehicle’s cab and bed variations and axe the regular cab version. The decision was probably determined by the fact that the Tacoma’s main rivals, the Nissan Frontier and the Honda Ridgeline, already dropped the regular cab a while back.
Moreover, the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are likely to be launched only as extended and crew cab models, which basically renders the regular cab Tacoma unemployed.
Introduced in 2004, the second-generation Toyota Tacoma received a minor facelift in 2009 and a more thorough update for the 2012 model year, when restyled front bumpers, headlamps, grille, hood and interiors were added. The Tacoma is being built in San Antonia (USA), Tijuana (Mexico) and Hamura (Japan).
