Toyota Thinks the New Yaris Is a Sneaker

When Toyota launched the new Yaris, the company and the public alike found quite a lot of stuff to say about the vehicle. Nonetheless, we’re pretty sure nobody regarded the Japanese sub-compact asa a... sneaker. All that has now changed, with Toyota’s latest campaign portraying the Yaris as just that.
Before you jump to any “they’ve taken things too far” conclusion, you should know that that this is actually a campaign for the Toyota Vios - the version of the Yaris sold in Japan, where very few things can cross the border of “unusual”. By the way, the Asian version comes with a certain differences in terms of the exterior and the cabin, while it also gets a dedicated 1.2-liter engine. Nothing strange here.

After all, it does make sense for Toyota to try and boost its overall fun factor. Toyota may be the world’s number one automotive producers, but the sheer fact they’ve surpassed General Motors means the Japanese know how fragile such laurels can be. The automaker is aware of its weaknesses and it looks like it is working on these.

Toyotas may have a strong reputation for reliability and dependability, but fun cars they are not. The automaker has bragged to change all this. Wile we admit the ad below may have brought a little smile on our faces, we hope then engineering and styling departments do their jobs too. We've recently had a go in the Camry and while things have started to become more involving, there' still a long way to go.
