Saying the next-gen Camry is important for Toyota’s future is a bit of an understatement, probably the biggest one we can make in the automotive industry. The most important factors to determine its success have more to do with the engines and economy, but until we can get our hands on that bit of info, we’ll have to make due with talking about the Acura-like styling.
A month ago, the Japanese carmaker released a really unimpressive teaser image, after which a scan from a dealer brochure showing the entire body of the car in all its... lack of glory. Now, the Big T has taken another crack at the teasing game and posted a brand new image of the 2012 Camry on its Twitter page.
A lot of people are waiting for this car, and there is bound to be a few disappointed faces at the unveiling, but the model that really counts is the hybrid version, since Toyota now has a reputation of being the go-to green carmaker.
The official teaser image of the mid-size shows a cropped image showing a 3/4 view of the 2012 Camry. It looks like the grille has been changed to one with a honeycomb design. A short text accompanies the post in the Twitter post: "Check out an official pic of the all-new 2012 Camry and stay tuned for more info on the upcoming launch."
Early this week, Toyota said the new Camry will be officially unveiled August 23 in a series of four simultaneous reveals around the United States. The unveiling will be made at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan, as well as New York, Los Angeles and Georgetown, Kentucky, home of the Camry manufacturing plant. The 2012 Camry will go on sale later this fall, and prices are expect to be in line with the previous generation. The hybrid version will also be unveiled on the 23rd.
We expect to see the usual 2.5-liter four-pot under the bonnet, as well as 3.5-liter V6, coupled with six-speed automatic transmissions.
