After the four Japanese automakers announced in July they were to jointly promote the construction of a user-friendly network of charging infrastructures, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi have officially agreed on the details of specific financial assistance they will provide to installers of charging stations for electric vehicles in Japan.
The companies expect electric vehicles to play a major role in driving the energy policy for the next generations and as a result, they will assist installers with the part of the costs not covered by the government.
Financial assistance will be made available to those businesses and operations that satisfy certain conditions, such as destination charging spots at commercial and lodging facilities, as well as en-route charging spots in service areas, toll-road parking lots, convenience stores and service stations.
The plan also include the establishment of a management organization that will set up and manage a membership-based charging service by the spring of 2014. The organization will collect membership fees and usage charges from EV users and use the money to fund the assistance program.
