Toyota TAPESTRY Accepting Entries

For the past 21 years, Japanese manufacturer Toyota has tried to support the education system in the US by establishing the TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program, one which shortly became the largest science teacher grant program in the US.

Toyota announced today that it has opened registrations for the 2011-2012 program, which will see fifty $10,000 grants awarded to K-12 teachers. All they have to do is sign up and prove they can develop and sustain science projects which add to the environmental science education in their school over a one-year period.

The program is being supervised by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), who will select the winning projects based on a comprehensive set of criteria, most of which revolving around the impact the proposed programs will have on the community.

To register for the grants, teachers must be elementary teachers who teach science in the classroom or middle or high school science teachers with a minimum of two years teaching experience. Entries from all 50 states are being accepted.

“For 21 years Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers have provided thousands of teachers and students the opportunity to further explore the wonders of science,” said Francis Eberle, NSTA executive director.

The focus on environmental science for this year's awards is important and will help both teachers and students to better understand and appreciate critical environmental issues that can and will have an impact on our nation's future. We greatly value our relationship with Toyota and applaud them for their commitment to science education.”
