According to Motor Trend, a successor to the Supra is indeed coming, but it will actually be a mid-engined car with a hybrid drivetrain and all-wheel drive. It sounds like Toyota will develop a car similar to the NSX, with a complicated electric motor all-wheel drive setup.
Toyota’s GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept, shown last year in its second form, provides a glimpse about the setup. It used a 3.5-liter V6 engine to power the rear wheels and a single electric motor for the front wheels. We thought it was a bit strange that the concept was asked to test its architecture at the Nurburgring 24 Hours last year, and now we have some reason to believe it was actually a testbed.
