Toyota Subaru FT-86 Could Also Become a Scion

The Toyota-Subaru FT-86 project is getting more and more attention as new details surface. The idea of an affordable sports car is extremely appealing and car enthusiasts from all over the world are waiting for the two Japanese automotive producers to release such a financial-sensitive little beast.

However, it seems that there’s a third company involved in this project. We are talking about Scion, Toyota’s U.S. division that produces sporty-stiled vehicles.

It seems that the FT-86 could also get a Scion badge in the future, as Insideline reports. The move would make sense, as Scion has always relied on offering and promoting a dynamic look and affordability.

In fact, the birth of a Scion FT-86 would take the American automaker’s game to a whole new level. This is because Scion vehicles have never really excelled at offering an involving driving experience or top performance and the FT-86 would change this.

The company’s president, Jack Hollis, told the aforementioned source that the carmaker doesn’t rule out the possibility of offering a rear-wheel-drive vehicle in the future, adding that the model would be a very important one for the brand and that it would be priced just over $20,000.

However, linking Scion’s future rear-wheel-drive project to the FT-86 would be a far stretch, if the story didn’t offered additional clues. Insideline contacted a Toyota official who made an interesting statement. The official said that the company has never stated the the FT-86 would hit America wearing a Toyota badge.
