Toyota: Stripped Down Purist FR-S (GT 86) Not for US

We blame this on Scion’s ‘one trim level’ attitude, but Toyota isn’t going to sell the stripped down version of their new sports coupe, call it the FR-S or the GT 86, in the US, at least for the foreseeable future. So you’ve lost your chance to create your own track car cheaply, according to Automotive News.

The Purist versions are strictly for the Japanese marketplace right now. Both the the stripped down versions come without features like air conditioning, audio system, door lamps, leather finish for certain parts of the interior, aluminum pedals, silver trimming, as well as trunk light or trimming / matt.

On the plus side, the Purist models do without the torsen rear LSD that has been replaced with a mechanical one. If the stripped down version were available in the US, they could have been cheaper by about $10,000 than the base FR-S.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
