Have you ever tried hypermiling? Maybe you have involuntarily after the refuel light popped on your dash and discovered that the next gas station is just over your range.
Anyway, if you got the skills and live in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut areas and you support a charitable organization, you can enroll for the Toyota Prius Plug-in MPG Challenge.
The Challenge will consist of five separate waves of competition, each with up to eight challengers, which will borrow a Toyota Prius Plug-in for 30 days and try achieve the best mileage.
To be eligible, the contestants must drive a minimum of 500 miles in total and 75 miles per week. Apart from the hybrid vehicle, they will receive a $200 gas card to cover the fuel for the whole period.
“We see the MPG Challenge as a way to make environmental education fun,” said David Christ, general manager of Toyota’s New York Region. “By tapping regional organizations, we’re able to engage at a local level while demonstrating the Toyota Prius Plug-In’s ability to improve the lives of our fellow community members.”
When the trial is over, the company will analyze each Prius’ trip computer and make a top MPG achieved by the challengers. First place will win a $2,500 contribution, second earns $1,000 and third place gets $500.
