Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is the only automaker to sell over 10,000 units on the local market last month.
According to the National Association of Automotive Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), Toyota recorded sales of 10,398 units from an overall 59,112 sold vehicles, best August sales since 2007.

“Sales for August were slightly lower than July, but well in line with expectations and the second best August sales month since the market peaked in 2007,” says Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing at TSAM.

The Toyota Hilux was the best sold light commercial vehicle model, registering 3,339 units delivered - a 5.3 percent increase over the same month last year. In fact, the whole LCV segment scored increased sales, compared to the passenger vehicle’s decline.

“Many point to the strong growth in LCV sales as an indication of positive underlying economic activity, but the growth is somewhat misleading,” says Hamman.
