Toyota Sienta Debuts in Japan with 1.5-liter Hybrid Powertrain

No, that's not a typo, we didn't miss the 'n' as we're not talking about the Toyota Sienna here. Toyota just introduced the new Sienta minivan in Japan, looking sportier than ever.

First of all, we must tell you this: the car's design was inspired by the shape of a shoe. Once you're done with laughing, here's a little mention: not just any shoe, but a trekking shoe.

That partly explains the wide-open grille overlooking the car's front end and the generous front and rear bumpers and black plastic trimming. Since we're still talking about the exterior, you should know Toyota is offering eight body colors for the Sienta, including the Air Yellow you saw in the picture above.

Clients can select one of the two powertrain options available for the Toyota Sienta, namely a 1.5-liter hybrid aggregate good for 74 HP and a 1.5-liter gasoline unit that combines the Atkinson Cycle with Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Variable Valve Timing-intelligent by Electric motor functions, rated at 109 HP.

In hybrid form, the Sienta forecasts a theoretical mixed fuel consumption of 3.6 l/100 km or 63.9 mpg US, while the ICE variant returns 4.8 l/100 km or 48.4 mpg US.

The interior is also a strong point for this car, as Toyota configured the Sienta in such a manner that the MPV can be had as a 7-seater, 6-seater, and 5-seater. Cabin styling has been kept pretty straightforward, without fancy gimmicks while front passengers have a 4.2-inch color TFT LCD display they can use to interact with the infotainment system.

Toyota Sienta comes with a starting sticker of 1,689,709 yen, which at current exchange rates is the equivalent of a bit below $14,000.
